Pre-Retirement and Pensions Planning

Longer life spans and the increasing costs of living make retirement planning more important than it ever has been. Getting the right strategy in place early on significantly increases the chances of you hitting your retirement goals.

Kirk Rice will help you put together a strong strategy for accumulating the wealth that will be used to provide your future retirement income.

How we help you plan for retirement

Once we’ve discussed your goals we’ll start by looking at any pension provisions you already have in place. Understanding your existing arrangements means we can establish areas where we might be able to streamline your retirement savings strategy.

One of your key retirement goals will be receiving a sustainable income. So we’ll help you make the best decisions by projecting your retirement income requirements and making our recommendations based around them. The suitability of existing arrangements will depend on a number of factors. These will include things like investment performance and compatibility with your attitude to risk, fund choice, charges and product flexibility.

Our pension transfer specialists can also review your options for any final salary pension you may have. This could include the possibility of transferring out of an existing scheme to access the new pension freedoms offered by personal pension schemes, or improved death benefits.

Our pension specialists are not tied to the products of a particular provider. Kirk Rice acts independently, which means we are able to consider any product in the marketplace and you get access to the best products available. With the help of a dedicated in-house paraplanner we carry out extensive research to find the most suitable products and providers on your behalf.  The retirement products we will consider are:

  • Personal/stakeholder pensions
  • WRAP or Platform provider pensions
  • Self-invested personal pensions (SIPP)
  • Small self-administered schemes (SSAS)
  • Qualifying recognised overseas pension schemes

In addition, retirement planning can make use of non-pension investments such as ISAs.

We also have our own onsite tax specialists. So we will monitor and take advantage of any tax allowances for you. This enables you to make use of the ability to carry forward unused allowances, for example – all with the view of saving you from paying too much tax.

We will also oversee the implementation of any new investments put in place, keeping you informed throughout the process.

How often do your pension assets get reviewed?

This depends on your requirements, the recommended products and investment portfolio. For example, if you are invested in one of our model portfolios then we will review your pension portfolio every six months (in January and July). Following each review you will receive an email which will clearly:

  • Summarise the performance of your portfolio
  • Summarise the proposed changes
  • Provide a link to a detailed portfolio report, portfolio update report and rationale for our recommendations
  • Ask for your permission to make any recommended changes

Each review includes a realignment of your investments where necessary. Also, Kirk Rice’s Investment Committee are regularly meeting fund managers, and attending webinars and seminars to keep up to date with fund managers’ views. All of this is taken into consideration at our six-monthly reviews.

We don’t make any changes to your pension investments without your consent. And we’ll provide all the information you’ll need – including the rationale for changes and in depth analysis – to enable you to give us the go-ahead.
Occasionally a situation may occur that warrants a change outside the normal review period. An example could be the unexpected departure of a fund manager. In this case, we would get in touch during the interim period with our recommendation. (Any recommended switching between funds is free of charge.)

On top of this twice-yearly review you will also have a review meeting with your adviser. This will typically be annually, but can be tailored to your requirements. It provides you with the chance to discuss your portfolio face to face and to review your objectives and progress to date.

A no-obligation retirement and pensions planning meeting

We offer a no cost, no obligation meeting with one of our highly-qualified pensions specialists. They will discuss your circumstances and objectives, as well as your attitude towards risk. As everybody’s circumstances differ, this meeting gives you the opportunity to see how we can help you hit your retirement goals.

Can I Transfer My Pensions?

‘I’ve worked for 4 previous employers and had a group personal pension with each.  My employer has set up a new scheme with NEST, which I have been enrolled in.  I want to be able to access my pension in one place and not have to deal with 4 different firms whenever any of my details change.’

Testimonials

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Peter and Sue for all of your help in arranging my pension. You kept my anxiety during these last few weeks to an absolute minimum and this was very much due to your excellent support throughout the whole administrative process. I will never hesitate in recommending Kirk Rice to all my family and friends in the future. Once again a big thank you for easing this old man so effortlessly into his retirement.
