The 2015 Kirk Rice Charity Bake OffWritten on November 5, 2015 by Kirk Rice LLP

Last week saw the final of the 2015 Kirk Rice Charity Bake Off. It is the 3rd year running that we have held this competition and each year it seems to get bigger and better with more participants and more impressive and delicious bakes.

Over the past few weeks we held 2 heats with 8 members of staff baking to compete for the much coveted Kirk Rice Bake Off Trophy. Competitors were Kate Hancock, Margaret Marson, Priya Bhavsar, Sarah Newell, Karen Dickson, Kirsty Heslop, Rebecca Felgate and our only male entrant Michael Powell.

The semi final saw Kate, Kirsty, Margaret and Rebecca bake 4 amazing cakes with an Accountancy theme. It was extremely close, but Kirsty and Kate were voted to be our finalists.

With Halloween upon us last week, our final head to head battle took place. The theme was of course Halloween with the bakers given the freedom to bake whatever style cake they liked! Kirsty and Kate once again stepped up to face their final challenge. Kirsty baked a fantastic Ghost Train whilst our other finalist Kate baked a superb  Ghostly Graveyard Chocolate Cake. Both looked amazing as you can see and tasted delicious. I guess in the end it came down to whether the Kirk Rice staff were chocoholics or not!

The votes were counted and the final winner announced as …………………… Kate Hancock, so it seems chocolate could be the way to the Kirk Rice team’s hearts.

During each round staff donated to taste the cakes and cast their votes. This year the winner could decide to which charity they would like to donate the funds raised. This year’s Bake Off raised a total of £173 which Kate has decided to donate to Sue Ryder.

A massive thank you goes to all staff who took the time and effort to produce such impressive and delicious bakes and those who increased their waistlines tasting them. Finally, huge congratulations to Kate Hancock our 2015 winner. Roll on Bake Off 2016 and hold on to that trophy tight Kate it will be challenged again!
