Smart Works – Join Kirk Rice To Help Women In Need Get Into Employment

Whilst employment may be at it's highest, it is important to remember that there are still challenges and barriers for many people who want to work entering the job market. Which is why at Kirk Rice LLP, we believe that corporate social responsibility is so important and intend to do our best to do our best to help some of these people.

Maxine Guest, Partner of Kirk Rice LLP, likes to help causes that are close to her heart, such as providing other women in business with the same opportunities that she has had. This is why we are supporting the amazing charity Smart Works.

Smart Works is a national charity run by recruitment and fashion experts to help unemployed women in need to get jobs. The charity opened its Reading operation in October 2015 and has since delivered their service to over 200 women in the Thames Valley region. They do this by inviting these women to a session at one of their centres in Manchester, London, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Reading or Birmingham. During the session, they are supplied with a high-quality interview outfit that is catered to their tastes and industry, before being given professional interview coaching by a HR, recruitment or coaching expert. They give women the confidence, the self-belief and the practical tools they require to succeed at interview and start a new chapter of their life.

Women are referred to Smart Works from organisations such as job centres, work programmes, prisons, care homes, homeless shelters and mental health charities. Half have been unsuccessful in over 20 applications. A third have been turned down from over 50 jobs. All are suffering from a lack of confidence in their own abilities.

Their philosophy is “Get the Clothes. Get the Confidence. Get the Job”.

The success of Smart Works is dependent on regular donations of smart ladies clothing (used or new) and accessories to dress women ahead of interviews.

We fully believe in the mission of Smart Works, which is why we are hosting a period of clothing collection for them from the 23 October to 10 November at our offices in Ascot, Fleet and Putney (see our contact pages for full office addresses). We would be delighted if you are able to ‘bring’ any used, unworn or new smart ladies clothing, jewellery, accessories, new tights for the charity.  If you have any interview worthy female clothing that you would like to donate to the cause, please bring them along and they will be collected by Smart Works Reading on Thursday 18 April.

We are thrilled to be working with such an interesting charity.

What to donate:

  • High quality, interview appropriate clothing: suits, trousers, skirts, tops, shirts, dresses, coats.
  • Accessories including shoes, handbags, scarves, jewellery and new pairs of tights.
  • Unopened cosmetics and toiletries.

A visit to Smart Works can change the course of a woman’s life, so we really hope you’ll support us where you can.  You can read more about Smart Works at smartworks.org.uk.
